Scanbuy Barcode Coverage & Comments: The Heat Is On
My recent observation that 2D barcodes and other technologies – such as mobile visual search and image recognition – will top the list in 2009, is further supported by news from Scanbuy that its ScanLife 2D app will be pre-loaded in camera phones from LG Electronics (after striking a similar deal with Samsung in the Fall).
Behind the scenes, sparks continue to fly, prompted by the MSG exclusive interview with Jonathan Bulkeley, Scanbuy CEO. His only formal response to a recent and controversial CTIA white paper — work-in-progress that outlines the ecosystem and infrastructure needed to make 2D barcodes a viable business–counts 8 11 in-depth comments from industry insiders and executives. It will take a few design tweaks before comments feature on the MSG home page, but the debate is too good to miss. Check out the discussion here and the post that started it all here. BTW: I’m collecting questions for my upcoming podcast with Jonathan, so feel free to submit your topics in a comment or send them to me directly – peggy@msearchgroove.com .

Dear Peggy,
Are you going to ask Jonathan Bulkeley (Scanbuy CEO) about the USPTO re-confirming Neomedia’s 048 patent?
This is likely to have a significant impact upon Scanbuy’s and others pathway forward.

Sure thing Roger – just got back from NYC and Jonathan is at the top of my list. Taking this offline and asking my PA to reach out.

Hello Peggy…any luck with Jonathan?
My guess is that he’ll be in ‘no comment’ mode…until Scanbuy find out if they face any trouble.
