Japanese Mobile Advertising Market Set To Top $1 Billion In 2008; Mobile Affiliate Advertising Soars

Author: James Cameron

According to Seed Planning’s mobile report (via this blog post), the Japanese mobile advertising market will be worth over 100 billion yen in 2008 ($1 billion) up from 81 billion yen in 2007. This rise of 22 percent includes all types of mobile advertising including banner, affiliate and paid search ads and if current growth continues the market could be worth upwards of 250 billion yen by 2011.

One stat that certainly caught my eye was the growth in mobile affiliate advertising which soared to 17.9 billion yen, an increase of 184 percent. This will no doubt make good reading for those in the directory industry who believe that mobile affiliate advertising is the prime way of monetising their online business in the mobile space.
