iPhone Tops List Of Mobile Browsers; Google Leads The Pack When It Comes To Popular iPhone Apps
Apple promised its iPhone would revolutionise mobile Internet usage and there are now signs that it is doing just that.
Aliso Viejo, CA, based Web marketing software company Net Applications has been tracking iPhone usage since its launch in June and it has found that despite only being on sale for five months, more people spend more time browsing the web on iPhones than on any other type of portable device – and that is despite the fact that there are far fewer of them out there than, for example, Microsoft Windows or Symbian devices.
To put things into context, however, the Net Applications figures still show web browsing from mobile devices to be a very small minority interest. Browsing on the iPhone only accounted for 0.09 per cent of page views compared to 6.81% browsing from Mac computers and 92.4% browsing from Windows based computers.

But it is the speed with which the iPhone has had its impact that impresses. Despite being available for over almost ten years, Windows Mobile devices managed just 0.06 per cent of all page views and Symbian devices just 0.01 per cent. In other words iPhones are being used to browse the Internet more often than all the other mobile phones put together.
Peggy adds: Meanwhile, Apple gives us a countdown of the most popular iPhone apps to date. The winners are:
- Google Search
- Frenzic
- iPunchOut!
- Google Maps for iPhone Touch
- iDuckHunt by Jirbo
- Connect4 touch
- The Zinio Mobile Newsstand
- Finger Scan
- MindDojo
- SMASH!
