Regular readers will know that I don’t only produce commentary and analysis for MSearchGroove on all things mobile at the intersection of content and context; I also contribute to valuable industry destinations and publications ranging from  Mobile Marketer and RCR Wireless (a leading source of mobile news that has made a fantastic comeback), to Netsize, the company behind the Netsize Guide, the only comprehensive communications industry almanac.

I am also honored to feature in Mobile Kompass 2009, a must-read 130-page publication that expertly presents the topics, trends and companies that matter most. This Who’s Who – published by the BVDW (Bundesverband Digitale Wirtschaft), Germany’s leading professional organization for digital content and interactive marketing companies – covers a wide range of industry segments including mobile apps, payment, entertainment, social media and mobile TV.

A special attraction is mobile advertising, market poised for impressive growth. This was the message that came through loud and clear during the recent Mobile Marketing Europe event in Berlin, where Mark Wächter (Germany’s Mr. Mobile, whom I salute in this month’s edgy Mobile Groove podcast) announced a new level of partnership between Germany and the Mobile Marketing Association.

We heard from René Bellack (Vodafone MediaSolutions!) that 88.4 percent of mobile advertisers that ran campaigns in 2007 came back for more in 2008. In 2008 a total of 136 brands had advertised on mobile, a whopping 316.3 percent increase over the previous year. Additionally, more advertisers are running more campaigns. The average number of campaigns per advertiser rose from 1.8 in 2007 to 3.6 in 2009. Connect the dots, and positive results are driving interest and experimentation.

In addition to commentary from both Mark and René, Mobile Kompass 2009 also features thought-provoking commentary from 40+ authors and executives including: Olav A. Waschkies (Pixelpark  AG), Benedikt Hanswille (12snap Germany GmbH), Mirko Klopfleisch (the  agent  factory  GmbH),  Marc Schmöger (7P Consulting GmbH), Harald Neidhardt (Smaato), Paul Berney (Mobile Marketing Assoc. Europe), Christian Goedecke (Spiegel Online  GmbH),  Bernd  M.  Michael (Deutscher Marketing Verband) and Heike Scholz (Mobile Zeitgeist).

My contribution (in English) to the section on mobile search expands on my recent Mobile Search Masterclass as well as the research I compiled in preparation for a workshop on Mobile Search Future Prospects organized by JRC IPTS (Institute for Prospective Technological Studies of the European Commission).

The bottom line: This is the book if you are serious about taking advantage of business opportunities in Germany. You can purchase your copy for 49.90 euros from the BVDW online shop. You can also download the PDF for 39.90 euros.
