Author: Peggy Anne Salz

EMMA awardsA last call for entries for the Effective Mobile Marketing Awards (EMMAs). The deadline to submit your campaign (no entry fee, BTW) is tomorrow. The newest awards program in the mobile marketing space comes from Mobile Marketing magazine and recognizes the effectiveness of mobile marketing campaigns, apps and mobile websites worldwide.

There are 13 categories including B2B, B2C, opt-in, location, barcode and a special Grand Prix award that will be voted on and presented at the Awards Ceremony in December in London.

I am honored to join the judging panel, which includes Jonathan Bass, managing director of Incentivated; Russell Buckley, VP Global alliances at AdMob; Jeremy Copp, VP mobile Europe at comScore; Ben Cusack, creative director at Mobile Interactive Group; mobile specialist Helen Keegan; Nick Lane, CEO of mobileSquared; Alex Meisl, chairman and founder of Sponge; John Mew, head of mobile at the Internet Advertising Bureau; and Bob Wooton, director of media & advertising at the ISBA.

And, when you head to the Mobile Marketing Magazine website to register your best campaign(s), be sure to check out the new issue of the online magazine.

smaato featureThis issue includes a cover story on Smaato, an in-depth look at mobile retail and an excellent thought leadership contribution from Sienne Veit, social and mobile commerce development manager at M&S Direct who “gets” the connection between mobile and shopping better than most (!)

I had the pleasure of interviewing her for the Netsize Guide 2010, an in-depth Q&A that includes key learnings and best practice.

Sienne is a brilliant strategist and I look forward to covering developments as her company combines social and mobile to drive interactions and transactions.

(If you are a company that wants to share your mobile journey, then please reach out to me directly (peggy@msearchgroove.com) with your case studies, best practices and personal experiences. I am also open to guest columns and contributions.)

New magazine is out

app featureSpeaking of contributions, I am also proud to have contributed an in-depth article to the new issue of Mobile Marketing Magazine drawing from sources including a recent report from Chetan Sharma, a developer survey from VisionMobile and an industry survey from Netsize, as well as interviews with developers (Touchnote) and strategists (Tego Interactive) to define the mobile app landscape.

The takeaway: apps (alone) are not a strategy and companies should ‘think retail’ and take marketing, promotion and payment methods into their own hands.

Kudos to my friend and esteemed colleague David Murphy and his team (John Owen) for another excellent issue of the magazine! I look forward to contributing in to future issues.

Congrats to David for also deciding to launch a series of Mobile Masterclasses together with Camerjam, the events company owned by the inimitable James Cameron. The mobile industry can only benefit from education, insight and a clear view to best practice and I am confident this team and their events will deliver.

Disclaimer: Netsize is an MSG supporter, Smaato has been closely aligned with MSG and Tego Interactive is MSG’s chosen partner for all mobile/Web integration and digital strategy.
