Back In The Saddle: Mobile Search Makes The Buzz @ First-Ever Mobile Internet World Event & Awards

Author: Peggy Anne Salz

Mobile Internet World in Boston has all the makings of a must-attend event moving forward and I know it will be on my list next year. Before I head over to the Executive Roundtable for what is sure to be a stimulating discussion about the emerging mobile Internet ecosystem, allow me to extend my thanks to the organizers for inviting me to participate in an invitation-only session on mobile search headed by Jill Aldort, senior analyst, Yankee Group.

I especially enjoyed the invigorating exchange with Kevin Packingham, Sprint VP of Product Development, Wireless Data, and look forward to continuing the dialogue. It is encouraging to see so much interest and excitement around a topic that has been my passion for several years. In fact, my 200+ page report on mobile search and content discovery on behalf of Informa (the industry-first examination of the market and I’m proud to say one of Informa’s best-selling reports) continues to have its dedicated fans among senior execs who tell me they regard it as a reference work.

It is rewarding to know that my research has had such an impact and I look forward to the debate and discussion my current projects – including a systematic study of mobile search services worldwide – are sure to spark. Of course, I will make this work freely available on the site, so please check back regularly. (BTW, bnetTV roving on-air reporter Nicole Scott caught up with me during Mobile Internet World to talk about search industry trends, social networking and progress at MSG. Overall, bnetTV does a great job of covering must-attend events in the industry, including CTIA, CES and 3GSM, so check there for interviews, demos and keynotes. I’ll post the link to my interview here once they’ve edited the piece.)

More when I return to the office. James Cameron has been out with the flu, but rest assured we’ll all be back in full force on Friday. I’m also scheduled for a briefing with Medio when I return, so I hope to have more detail on the deal with mInfo (and a few more surprises, I’m told…)
